1. Knocked Up (2007)
As the name suggests the film talks about unplanned pregnancies. When we think about this topic we think that the film might be filled with melodrama but it is quite the opposite actually. Starring Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen, the film revolves around Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) who meets Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl) at a bar, where they get drunk and have a one night stand, after which they part ways. After a few weeks, Alison discovers she's pregnant with Ben’s child. Knocked Up is a well made movie, from the screenplay to the realistic acting and clever and witty dialogues, the film is fun to watch.
2. The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005)
Starring Steve Carell, the film revolves around Andy (Steve Carell) a forty year old virgin, who while socializing with his co-workers accidentally reveals that he is a virgin. His co-workers, David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco), and Cal (Seth Rogen) initially tease him about his situation. But the three have respect for Andy being a decent human, and they then decide to help him out in ending his virginity. The film is full of charm and Steve Carell played the role of Andy brilliantly. Trust us when we say this you will have a hard time trying not to laugh in the entire film.
3. The Dictator (2012)
If you decide to watch this film, you’re in for a treat. Starring Sacha Baron Cohen, the film revolves around Hafez Aladeen (Sacha Baron Cohen) an eccentric ruler of the Republic of Wadiya and how his trip to New York goes awry. The film is packed with laughter and if you’re a person who gets easily offended then this film is not for you. But if you enjoy dark comedy then add this film to your watch list.
4. We're the Millers (2013)
When we think of ‘We’re the Millers’ the first thing that comes to our mind is the famous dialogue “You guys are getting paid” yes the dialogue is from this film. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, Jason Sudeikis and Will Poulter, the film revolves around David (Jason Sudeikis) a drug dealer who is forced by his boss to go to Mexico to pick up a load of marijuana. In order to improve his odds of making it past the border, David asks the broke stripper Rose (Jennifer Aniston) and two local teenagers to join him and pretend they're on a family holiday. The movie is quite enjoyable and makes you laugh harder by the minute.
5. Deadpool (2016)
Starring Ryan Reynolds, this film is a complete entertainer. Some may call it an action movie but you can’t ignore the plethora of jokes and funny situations that the film abounds with. Ryan Reynolds is the perfect fit as the foul mouthed, witty anti-hero. Apart from comedy the film is also full of action scenes. Comedy and action it's a perfect match, aren't they? The film revolves around Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) a former Special Forces operative who gets trapped in the experiment of an evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) who tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. Deadpool then uses his new skills to hunt down the scientist who destroyed his life. Ryan Reynolds completely owned the screen with his fantastic performance.
6. The Hangover (2009)
We’ve all done stupid things when drunk, right? One of our top favourites, starring the charming Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, the film revolves around Doug and his three best men Phil Wenneck (Bradley Cooper), Alan Garner (Zach Galifianakis) and Stu Price (Ed Helms) who go to Las Vegas to celebrate his bachelor party. However, the next day the three best men wake up to find out that the groom Doug is missing. The film is a comedy riot and the timing of each character is to the point. Everytime we watch this film we just laugh a little harder.
7. Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)
Crazy, Stupid, Love is one of the best romantic comedies ever made. Starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Julianne Moore the story revolves around Cal (Steve Carell) and Emily (Julianne Moore) who have the perfect marriage until Emily asks for a divorce. To deal with his sorrows, now single Cal is drinking at a bar and makes a bachelor friend Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling) who helps him deal with his new single life. Apart from the brilliant star cast the film is fresh and full of surprises.
8. Palm Springs (2020)
If you’re in for something new and charming Palm Springs is the one for you. Featuring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, the film is a time loop comedy where two wedding guests Nyles (Andy Samberg) a happy go lucky guy and Sarah (Cristin Milioti) a simple girl, who get in an infinite time loop and live the same day over and over again. The film is heart-felt, smart, funny and wholesome.
9. There's Something About Mary (1998)
This film is an absolute classic and is something we can watch on loop 24/7. The film is funny with gags coming one after the other which makes it so loved. Starring Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon and Ben Stiller, the film revolves around Ted (Ben Stiller) who was a geek in high school, who was going out to the prom with the most popular girl in school Mary (Cameron Diaz), but due to an unusual accident the prom date never happens. Thirteen years later Ted realizes he is still in love with Mary, so he hires an investigator to track down his lady love. But soon he realizes that he has to compete with others to impress her. Even though the film is a typical romantic comedy it’s the scenes that make us laugh out loud.
10. Bridesmaids (2011)
Bridesmaids, isn’t just an eighty minutes quick film but a character-driven comedy that takes time to develop its characters and establish the various relationships and resultant conflicts between them. Starring Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper the story revolves around Annie (Kristen Wiig) who is the maid of honor for her best friend Lillian's (Maya Rudolph) wedding. Annie's life is a mess as she doesn’t have a stable job and her business doesn't work but she works her way through the expensive and bizarre wedding rituals just to keep up with the rich bridesmaids. But she proves just how far a person can go for the people you love and care about the most. What we love about the film is heartwarming as well as it’s not afraid to pull any punches just because the film is centered around women.
11. The French Dispatch (2021)
While some might find it a little difficult to adhere to the whimsical filmmaking tendencies of American Director and Screenwriter Wes Anderson, some are quite enamoured by the visually impressive aesthetics of his comedy films. It has been 25 years since the release of Bottle Rocket where we got to see his sense and understanding of a quirky comedy storyline taking shape, but for those who truly enjoyed it, The French Dispatch is going to be a treat for sure! This 5 part anthology is very cleverly articulated with flavoured stories, each with their uniqueness and is humorous. The second story in this anthology titled The Concrete Masterpiece is touted to be the funniest of the five stories. Adrien Brody with his temper issues and Benicio Del Toro with his perfect enactment of a homicidal artist are the cherries on top. But for a Wes Anderson fan - this anthology is a beautifully crafted film, bringing in the big moment with subtle underlying humour and making it qualify for a must-watch.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Helmed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad went on to become one of the most loved comic book-inspired films in 2021. Slither in 2006 - a horror comedy film - saw the rise of this filmmaker who had a unique talent for using comedy with a sensible undertone. The stupendous success of DC films gave him a roadway to make amazing R-rated action films that have tasted success organically and have turned out to be one of the funniest films to watch out for in 2021. The most interesting aspect other than the impeccably intelligent storyline high on humour, is the cast that he got together for the film. At one point it is quite difficult to pinpoint which character we love the most. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn gives tough competition to King Shark played by Sylvester Stallone. The comic timing is so perfect that as soon as you decide to make someone your favourite, there is another character in the limelight who has impressed you again with their incredible comic timing. Making for a fun ride, this humorous feature needs to be on this list.
